Turnstone adds sports as wins, trophies mount

awards and trophies
The latest trophy sits on the receptionist’s desk, adorned with a handwritten note: “Bandits won this!” And if it had elbows, they would be up.
How else, if not with a tiny, well-placed elbow, will this latest treasure clear a space in the laden trophy case at Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities?
Tucked away down a back hall here are basketball trophies and power soccer trophies and more basketball trophies, one gleaming inscribed surface melding into the next. Beribboned medals of all shades spill across the shelves. There are team photos and handsome wood plaques and more team photos. Read more »

‘Trophy‘ addition to PS3 a double-edged sword
The implementation of the “trophy” system on the Playstation 3 is a pretty cool idea, but it has a few drawbacks.
It’s nice to be able to boast my gaming accomplishments against my friends on PS3 like X-Box 360 players could since launch. However, adding trophies in to games that previously didn’t have them is a double-edged sword.
On one hand, I can get more enjoyment out of older games, but on the other hand I’m hesitant to put in a large time investment in a game that doesn’t have trophies because I’m afraid the developers will patch in trophies.

Trophy News from Stornoway, UK
A TOURNAMENT consisting of Barra, Benbecula/South and North Uist was eventually won by the Benbecula/South side after some excellent games on a cold but crisp day at Daliburgh School.
The first game between Barra and North Uist produced an excelent performance by the young Barra side with Craig Ferguson in scintillating form for the Barraichs and some of the goals scored, not just by Craig but his team-mates were real top drawer stuff and they totally outplayed North Uist to win by 7 goals to 3.

Trophy News from Brazil

Trophy
It was so nearly a perfect ending for Felipe Massa, who was set to win the Formula 1 drivers’ championship in front of his home crowd in Brazil until Lewis Hamilton’s last minute dash that made the Briton world champion through finishing fifth.
Massa finished the race at Interlagos in first position and was handed the distinctive trophy made from a bioplastic supplied by race sponsor Braskem. While Massa can be excused for feeling deflated, Braskem saw the trophy as a showcase for its innovative material. Read more »

Trophy a special link for families

WHEN long-time junior rugby league supporter Ron Langdon passed away in 1997, his family created a perpetual memorial
trophy to be awarded to the most promising under 16 player each season.Little did Mr Langdon’s wife Thelma realise at the time, but the
trophy would keep her in contact with a legion of talented young athletes with whom she has had an association over the years.
This season young lock Daley Boney’s name was added to the prestigious trophy, an honour his older brother Cade achieved in 2006.
The Boney family are very good friends of Thelma and her family and grandson Jarrod Watts presented Daley with the trophy.
“Nearly every name on the trophy has a family connection for us and to see both Cade and Daley with it – well, Ron would just be so proud of them,” Mrs Langdon said.
“It is a big thrill. It is lovely to see someone you’ve had a lot to do with win it.
As a daycare mum, Mrs Langdon took care of 2002 winner Brendan Hunt and 2000 winner Jaye Foot.
And the 2003 Ron Langdon Memorial Trophy winner Liam Dunn is the grandson of neighbours of Mrs Langdon.
Thelma and Ron’s son Wayne Langdon was good mates with 1999 trophy winner Mark Robinson’s father, and 2005 winner Daniel O’Connor is also a family friend.
Meanwhile, on the rugby league front, the future is promising for Cade and Daley, who are in year 11 and year 10 respectively at Muswellbrook High.
Cade has been selected in the Knights 2009 under 18s squad while Daley has been selected in the Knights 2009 under 16s squad.
Cade has also been invited to participate in the Under 18 SG Ball Summer Squad for Indigenous players, while Daley will has been invited to join to the Under 16 Harold Matthews Summer Squad for indigenous players. Both camps are at Narabeen this weekend.
Daley hopes to one day play at NRL level and his goal is to be selected in a representative national or Indigenous side.
“It was good to win the trophy, especially as I know so many of the others who have won it,” Daley said.
