Spelling Bee Trophies
The 4th time was a charm for new spelling bee champion
Televised in prime time, last night the 82nd annual bee (Scripps National Spelling Bee) had a record number of participants with 293 hopeful competitors.
13-year-old Kavya Shivashankar correctly spelled ‘Laodicean’ to win the bee. She raised high her champion trophy with a shy smile. As it turns out the 4th time was the charm for Kavya, who had competed in the last three National Spelling Bees (finishing 10th, 8th and 4th consecutively).
She out-spelled her competition, including last year’s runner-up Sidharth Chand. He was this year’s favorite to win the title, trophy, and more than $40,000 in cash and prizes. When he misspelled ‘Apodyterium’ he received a standing ovation from the audience and spellers that is usually only reserved for the winner.

Turnstone adds sports as wins, trophies mount
The latest trophy sits on the receptionist’s desk, adorned with a handwritten note: “Bandits won this!” And if it had elbows, they would be up.
How else, if not with a tiny, well-placed elbow, will this latest treasure clear a space in the laden trophy case at Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities?
Tucked away down a back hall here are basketball trophies and power soccer trophies and more basketball trophies, one gleaming inscribed surface melding into the next. Beribboned medals of all shades spill across the shelves. There are team photos and handsome wood plaques and more team photos. Read more »
‘Trophy’ addition to PS3 a double-edged sword

‘Trophy‘ addition to PS3 a double-edged sword
The implementation of the “trophy” system on the Playstation 3 is a pretty cool idea, but it has a few drawbacks.
It’s nice to be able to boast my gaming accomplishments against my friends on PS3 like X-Box 360 players could since launch. However, adding trophies in to games that previously didn’t have them is a double-edged sword.
On one hand, I can get more enjoyment out of older games, but on the other hand I’m hesitant to put in a large time investment in a game that doesn’t have trophies because I’m afraid the developers will patch in trophies.
Masterofthehorse to give Aidan O’Brien fifth Racing Post Trophy

Masterofthehorse to give Aidan O’Brien fifth Racing Post Trophy
Popular opinion is that Aidan O’Brien is something of a longshot to break the record for the number of Group One winners in a year.
With 21 trophies under his belt, he needs another five trophies and time is running out.
For me, a pivotal event will be the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, a race the Ballydoyle trainer has collected four times with a selection of well-regarded colts, including dual Derby winner High Chaparral.
He has three of the 15 runners and an excellent chance of winning with Masterofthehorse, who has been progressing nicely in recent weeks. This colt is preferred to Jukebox Jury, who attempts to become the first in 26 years (since Dunbeath) to complete the Royal Lodge/Racing Post Trophy double.
Players have soft spot for Lady Byng
Trophy News In Toronto, Canada
Craig Ramsay might have put a little honor back in the game and the value back in the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
Lightning players Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis were two of the three finalists for the trophy given to the player “adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.”
Translated for normal people, that means the award is given to the player who plays well and does so with class, dignity and sportsmanship, without lowering himself to unsportsmanlike tactics.
Translated for hockey players, it means the guy’s soft. Nobody wants to be soft. Not in a game where many participants and observers have forgotten that a player can be physical and fair.
