Edgewood Academy has a new problem, one that up until this year hadn’t really been a concern.

How will it fit a 5-foot tall National Championship trophy in the school’s trophy case?

“Cody Lee, this thing is nearly as tall as you are,” said assistant Edgewood football coach Jeff Knee before giving the invocation.

The large trophy fits the large honor that Edgewood Academy received Tuesday morning as its football Wildcats were named the Division II National Champions of the National Private School Coaches Association.

“You are the smallest school, enrollment-wise in Division II,” said Pete Flournoy, director of the NPSAA’s selection committee. “Twenty-four of the 40 voters voted you as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Rogers is confident of pulling off an FA Trophy surprise

Trophy News from UNITED KINGDOM

TIVERTON Town boss Martyn Rogers is eyeing an upset after seeing his side drawn to play Bishop’s Stortford in the next round of the FA Trophy.

The Yellows have been drawn to face the Conference South strugglers away in the third qualifying round of the competition after they defeated Wealdstone 2-1 in the previous round on Saturday.

Rogers admitted he had hoped his men would be handed a home tie at this stage of the competition, with former FA Cup trophy winners AFC Wimbledon his dream opponents.

But with the Blues struggling badly in the league above Tivvy, Rogers believes his men have an excellent chance of pulling off a shock and progressing to the first round — the stage at which the non-league big boys of the Conference enter proceedings.

The Ladysmead chief said: “I think we have got every chance. They are not having the best of seasons to start with and hopefully we will capitalise on that.”

You are always disappointed to be drawn away, but at the end of the day we have got a good chance for trophy. It could have been a lot better but it could have been a lot worse.

In the days leading up to ABC’s nationally televised Texas-Oklahoma game, John Bianco, the Longhorns assistant athletic director for media relations, asked ESPN if it might be interested in a little story he had stored away about Heisman Trophy candidate Colt McCoy.

It was the heart-wrenching tale of McCoy and his relationship with his late cousin, Grant Hinds, a former U.S. Marine tank driver who did three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hinds came home, suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and died in the aftermath of an April car accident. A five-minute report aired on ESPN’s College GameDay just before the kickoff.

For Bianco, it was a victory before the victory on the field. Bianco is Colt McCoy’s campaign manager in his race for the Heisman Trophy

Nantwich Town: David urges Trophy focus

DABBERS boss Steve Davis has urged his players to forget their FA Cup heartbreak and concentrate on the next road to Wembley.

Nantwich were devastated to miss out on a history-making place in the first round proper of the FA Cup when they lost 4-3 at Fleetwood.

They surrendered a lead on three occasions but deserved at least a replay.

But Davis insists they must now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to Rugby Town in the FA Trophy.
